Peter Baumann war nicht nur von 1971 bis '77 - also in den prägendsten Jahren - Mitglied von Tangerine Dream, er war neben Edgar Froese auch die treibende kreative Kraft der Vorreiter der Berliner Schule. Noch vor seinem Ausstieg aus der Band veröffentlichte er 1976 seine erste Solo-LP. Nicht wenige Elektronik-Fans fanden: 'Romance 76' war stärker und inspirierter als alles, was von seiner damaligen Band noch folgen sollte. Der Einfluss von Tangerine Dream ist ohne Zweifel da, aber die Arrangements sind minimalistischer, die Strukturen weniger improvisiert, sondern stringent durchgeplant. 'Mit Tangerine Dream begannen wir uns meiner Meinung nach zu wiederholen', sagt Baumann. 'Ich wollte aber weiter neue Sachen entdecken und experimentieren.'
